05 August 2011 – As one of the better Windows Phone devices when it was first introduced, the HTC HD7 won over quite a few fans as an alternative to the iOS and Android-based devices flooding the market. Following in its footsteps, the HTC HD7S serves as a replacement to its predecessor, though you might want to read on before making the jump.

The HTC HD7 and HTC HD7S have the exact same 122 x 68 x 11.2 mm dimension and weight of 162 grams. Unlike other manufacturers that tweak their newer iterations, HTC believes that if it is not broken, then there is no need to fix it.

That is why the key difference lies solely in their respective screens; while the HTC HD7 and HTC HD7S both have a 4.3-inch, 480 x 800 pixel screen, the former’s standard LCD display was considered to be inferior when it first debuted via T-Mobile. Rivals AT&T came up with their own version that came with a Super LCD that blew it out of the water.

Both devices run on Windows Phone 7, though expect updates to the newer Windows Phone 7.5 Mango to roll in once Microsoft feels like it, for what is promised to be an entirely new experience altogether.

Under the hood, the HTC HD7 and HTC HD7S are powered by a 1GHz single-core Scorpion processor with an Adreno 220 GPU. Powering the two smartphones is a 1230mAh Li-Ion battery, which give you roughly the same amount of usage time, though the Super LCD has been known to consume more power.

The HTC HD7 and HTC HD7S have an identical 5-megapixel camera which is capable of recording videos up to 720p.

For all intents and purposes, the HTC HD7 and HTC HD7S are the same devices, except for the latter’s Super LCD display. It is hard to justify shelling out more money for something that is exactly alike underneath, but if display quality is a priority for you, then by all means, go for the HTC HD7S.

Pairing rich mobile multimedia features with a 4.3-inch touch display – the HTC HD7 promises to keep customers entertained and connected on the go. Windows Phone 7 also delivers an integrated experience on the HTC HD7 through Windows Phone Hubs. Hubs bring together a related set of applications, services and content into a single view to simplify common tasks.

The HTC HD7 includes fully integrated Microsoft Exchange e-mail and calendar as well as Office Hub, which offers customers mobile versions of popular productivity programs, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, OneNote and SharePoint Workspace.

In addition, the HTC HD7 delivers advanced phone features including GPS functionality with access to turn-by-turn navigation from TeleNav GPS Navigator, Internet Explorer 8, 16GB of internal memory, HD video recording, and an advanced 5 megapixel autofocus camera with dual LED flash.
